Buyer Beware South Florida Style
From WPEC Channel 12
A warning for those making an emergency supply list for the upcoming hurricane season.I have seldom if ever bought used merchandise. For you never know what the previous owner did or didn't do with it.
City leaders say in the last two years, many people in our area have bought or used cut-rate generators and now regret it.
Rich Walker of Power To Go, a local generator dealer and service company, says he sees it all the time.
When a storm is threatening, people get desperate, buying the power machines from classified ads and even off the street from random sellers with trailer trucks full of the equipment
Experts say when buying a generator give yourself plenty of time to do research.
Find out where the manufacturer is located, check the warranty, and make sure the maker has a local distributor.
That way parts are available if the generator breaks down.
What Channel 12 reports isn't surprising to me. There are always people who are either dumb or greedy and those who will take advantage of them. As the saying goes, "There's a sucker born every." Why would you ever buy something out of a person's car or truck?
