The run for the Green Jacket

The Masters Championship begins today. It's 20 years since Jack Nicklaus won his 6th and final title at August. Much reminiscing over this is taking place in the media right now.

I'd be a fool if I said anyone other than Tiger Woods is #1 favorite this week. Four wins in ten years is enough proof of Tiger's dominance at Augusta. The other usual names pop up- Mickelson, Els, Singh, Daly, Garcia, Goosen. There are 15 others who could win, and another 10-15 longshots if everything went well this week. The golf course has been lengthened but sometimes long golf courses can be deceiving. Augusta's tricky greens often makes this tournament into a putting contest.

No question, I'll be watching this weekend. TFM is making no prediction who will win. Remember what Ken Venturi said about the tournament- "The real tournament doesn't begin till the 10th tee on Sunday afternoon." Masters history has shown that to be correct more often than not.
