Deep Throat mystery The US equivalent of Britain's Cambridge Five or Fifth Man?

I see an analogy between these two mysteries that weren't solved for over thirty years. Both had people guessing or writing about who these people were.

If you don't know the story of the Cambridge five, go to this link- http://www.answers.com/topic/cambridge-five . The Cambridge Five was a group of young men who passed secrets from the UK back to Russia. The first four members were Kim Philby, Donald Maclean, Anthony Blunt and Guy Burgess.

For thirty years there was much speculation over who was the fifth member of this group. Roger Hollis the former head of MI-5 was one target or suspect. Others were Lord Rothschild, Guy Liddell and Goronwy Rees.

In 1990 John Cairncross came forward and admitted he was the infamous fifth man. He eventually died in 1995. Even Cairncross' confession hasn't stopped the speculation, there are some who don't believe it. I think some of these people could be profit driven rather than truth driven. Just look at all the speculation over the Kennedy assaination and the books and theories it spawned.

The Watergate Scandal, President Nixon's resignantion and the book and movie All the President's men fed a guessing game of a smaller scale here in the US. It was all solved two days ago with Mark Felt's admission backed up by Woodard and Bernstein the two reporters he leaked to.

I just thought this was an interesting analogy. Tell me if you agree or disagree.
