Wrong bag

A robber without a gun got away with a bag from an armored car in West Park. But the bag was filled with worthless checks.

About 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, an armed Brinks guard arrived at the Check Cashing Store at 5951 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd., according to the Broward Sheriff's Office. The truck was there to drop off cash and pick up a bag of canceled checks, BSO said.

The guard was walking out of the store with the bag of checks when a silver car pulled up beside him and a man jumped out, punching the guard on the face, BSO said.

The man snatched the bag and rushed back into the car, speeding away west on Hallandale Beach Boulevard, BSO said.

The armed guard, who never fired his weapon, was treated by paramedics for cuts to his forehead and nose, BSO said.

The getaway car is described as a late-model, four-door silver sedan.
