The Knucklehead of the Day award Part Five
Today's fifth winners are Shane Howard of Lauderhill, Michael Randolph of Miami and their employer Greyhound Bus Lines. They get the award for the following.
An unauthorized driver slammed a Greyhound bus into a group of passengers fresh from a Caribbean cruise on Sunday as they waited to board a bus at Port Everglades, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.Running down tourists is not good customer service. This isn't the first tourist related accident of late either. Something tells me this wasn't an isolated instance of Howard moving a bus. Even if it wasn't, the bus company is still responsible. Michael Randolph, Shane Howard and Greyhound Lines are today's fifth and last Knuckleheads of the Day.
Six people were transported to Broward General Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale with injuries that authorities said were not life-threatening.
The accident occurred at about 10:40 a.m. at the port's 19th berth at 2019 Eller Drive.
Shane Howard, 23, of Lauderhill, a dispatcher for Greyhound who is not licensed to drive a commercial vehicle, was attempting to move the bus when he struck the passengers, authorities said.
He was ticketed for not having a valid commercial license and for careless driving, both traffic infractions. Bus driver Michael Randolph, 28, of Miami, who was not behind the wheel at any time during the accident, was ticketed for permitting an unauthorized operator to drive the bus, according to sheriff's spokesman Mike Jachles.
