Commentary, sarcasm and snide remarks from a Florida resident of over thirty years. Being a glutton for punishment is a requirement for residency here. Who am I? Loving and interracial marriage

It's 39 years since Loving vs Virginia was decided by the US Supreme Court. This Warren Court decision overturned laws against interracial marriage.

For some it may seem unbelievable that an act of love can be against the law. It was. Virginia designed its law to prevent corruption of the blood and the creation of a mongrel breed of citizens. That was 1955 in a Court decision Naim v. Naim, 197 Va. 80, 87 S. E. 2d 749. Pretty sick thinking isn't it?

My marriage is an interracial one. Dear Wife is Asian, born in the Philippines. Neither of us married the other because of our race but because we loved one another. We've been together 17 years as of last month. Can you believe there is a woman out there who can put up with me?

LaShawn Barber has an excellent post on this decision. She compares Loving and the movement to ammend the Constitution so as to ban homosexual marriage. Go over and read LaShawn's post, it's worth the time.
